Case in point:
• A dummy on a long journey can soothe. It can also fall out.
• A car you call The Tardis because of its uncanny ability to be so small on the outside yet so roomy on the inside makes reaching from the front into the back to replug the dummy nigh on impossible without contorting like a rubber man from a freak show.
• Each red light you stop at gives opportunity for you to twist into said position. It also takes you longer to get home.

I'm hearing ya! I often get funny looks while driving one-handed with half of my body in the back seat! LOL
