My friend's hubby has a cough. His tickly throat has turned into a beast, spanning the past almost three months. It's affecting his social life (can't talk), he's getting rather down about it.
But the evil simple people we are, many guffaws were to be had at the visual of Greg (not his real name.... he's a dentist.... or something), unable to begin speaking without making that sound - you know when you have an irritated throat and you go to speak and it sounds like you're laughing? - trying to conduct business as a serious senior accountant at a happenin' firm.
He told her that all he imagines when he starts talking to important clients is that they are picturing a jolly fat accountant who laughs as he's delivering them the bad news, Dr. Hibbard style ... "You owe (heh-heh-heh) $34,000 and if you don't pay up (heh-heh-heh) we'll have to (heh) susp-heh-nd your acc-heh-ount." And he hears them sort of start to try and join in the chortles but they don't understand what's funny.
That had me in stitches for a good 10 minutes.
